Wide Belts in Today’s Fashion

Included in most fashion designers collections are the assortment of wide belts which come in different designs and colors that can be a perfect accessory for the latest outfits available this season. Wide belts can in fact accentuate every form and style of an outfit. You can use it on your tunics, shirt dresses, and even sweaters. Wide belts that are at least 3 inches in width are also selling like hot cakes in the market because of some of the newly introduced designs, appealing materials, and vibrant colors ranging from bright red, yellow, green and other pastel colors. It is also available in a more conservative designs and shades like gray, black, brown, white and other similar matted shades. Wide belts enhance and give a right womanly touch to shirt dresses, and also a more personalized, contemporary guise to tunic dresses and a teasing girl-next-door style to full skirted dresses ideal for evening affairs.

If you want to maximize the result of wearing wide belts as accent to your dress, you have to wear them the appropriate way. Always remember that wide belts are made to emphasize your upper body and put a make your waistline look small and slimming. Wide belts for the most part should be worn in a range from the waist to high, close to the breastbone. Wearing a wide belt in the area helps create the illusion of longer and leaner legs and helps give you a streamlined look. If you have a pear shaped or an hour glass figure pairing a wide belt with your outfit can accentuate your tiny waist and be figure-flattering. Be careful though if you have large breasts, a wide belt might go up under your breasts and accentuate their size even more so try to wear it lower or get a belt a bit slimmer. If you do not have many curves to your body then you can wear a wide belt at your hips to help create the illusion that you have curves. A good rule of thumb is to wear wide belts if your waistline is at least 1 or more inches smaller than your hips and or thighs.

Color and style are also important when it comes to wearing a wide belt. If your torso is short, then try to wear a belt as close to the color of your outfit. This will prevent you from contrast which in turn breaks you up and makes you look shorter. If your goal is to hide a thick, wider waist, try to wear a dark colored belt and clothes and do not wear a belt with lots of buckles and other details. This will give you a sleeker look as opposed to draw attention to that area.

Some would think that it is just another wide belt and you can actually wear it however you wanted it worn and not consider the fact that if wide belts are worn incorrectly, instead of improving your appearance, it can actually ruin it. Always follow the unwritten rules that cheap looking belts made from synthetic materials are more likely make you look shabbier than the one made from the finest leather with real stone studs. Also be aware of the fact that when your wide belts are too big for your figure, you will in reality, look more shrunken and small than in vogue. The only solution to this is to find a belt that actually fits you that is not too wide to avoid being a fashion victim.
