What’s Up in the Fashions Today?
Fashion has always been a means for mankind to express their views or reflect their culture and tradition. But fashion just does not limit to traditions but goes way beyond as the craze for it evolves.
Say it the acid dyed jeans or the fat skirted European styles, there are trends which come, disappear and make a comeback in a new model. The gaudy colored suits of the rock ‘n’ roll era may seem out fashioned these days nevertheless they still make their way in the fashions week shows. One such recent comeback is the emphasis on the shoulders known as the strong shoulder styling; in fact the fashion in the 09 fall is all about shoulders, big, sharp, puffy…
Such emphasis on strong shoulders was seen during the 80’s and even in the 40’s. Remember seeing that in some old World War II movie? That was fun to see. But then it has comeback with much hype as the new strong shoulder styling.
Actually petites tend to have narrow shoulders, strong-shoulder styling helps to balance a triangle-shaped figure or add shape to a rectangle-shaped figure. This trend was originally from the European style of clothing. They had much emphasis on shoulders and the waist. A typical European feminine wear would have bulged up shoulders with long sleeves and blown up gowns below the waist. That was to make the waist part look slim even if it is not for females.
Summer 2009 has just been saturated with neon colored jackets with football player like shoulders bringing back the strong shoulder styling. The strong shoulder look for these jackets were made by techniques like padding, cutouts, asymmetry, shirring in sleeve caps, pleating, draping, etc., and were one of the most significant features of the Spring/Summer season this year. And even blazers, suits and dresses showed more than average shoulder padding this year.
